The small contingent of Maitahi paddlers who are entered for Long Distance nationals in Whitianga will be making their way North this week for the weekend’s racing.
Glenn Hardinge will be the only one sporting the Maitahi OCC colours as he represents us in the Master 60 OC1 race, defending the title he won last year.
Jan Blythe and Carol Hunter are joining a North Island crew with realistic chances of bagging the sole qualifying spot for World Championships in Samoa.
And a very special mention to Greg Buck. He’s also teaming up with a North Island crew in an extraordinary display of enthusiasm, considering he is in the midst of his chemotherapy treatment. I’m not sure if he’s bonkers or just entirely inspirational, but having known him quite some time it’s probably both.
