Onetahua hosted the 3rd Winter Series at Pohara

The third Top of the South Winter Series was hosted by Onetahua at Tarakohe near Pohara. The weather on the Saturday (race day) was raining, but at least the wind died down enough for the races to begin at 11am. It didn’t dampen the warm welcome we received from our hosts. Hot food was available all day, soup rolls, sausages – a veritable feast.

The Ones and twos raced first, then two rangatahi W6 crews. The Club W6 crews race was shortened and the mixed club race finished just as the wind got up again and the temperature dropped.

The dinner at the Yacht Club on Saturday night was great. Some of us stayed at the Sand Castle and were treated to pizza on Friday night.

On Sunday we were treated to bright sunshine and fresh snow on the hills. Two W6 and 4 oneman waka went around to Wainui Bay and back. It was a great weekend.
