A large Maitahi contingent is heading down to Lake Eyrewell in North Canterbury this weekend for the South Island Sprint Championships. We have four crews competing in W6 : Hine Tai in Women’s Masters, Nga Manu Whaitiri in Women’s Senior Masters, Six Chicks in Women’s Golden Masters and Krakenz 60 in Men’s Senior Masters. A number of those crew members are also paddling singles.
A lot of hard work has gone into race preparation with Sean Timoney leading the coaching at the marina and Best Island. As ever, the whole club has supported in some way, not least being happy for Tuhirangi to live up at BI for a few days in the past week.
The atmosphere amongst the training group has been fantastic with everyone watching and learning from everyone else. Despite the murky water the training facilities are proving invaluable.
