Once again Maitahi turned out in force, volunteering to put up the marquees, be cycle marshals and to organise the car parking at Centennial road. This is a major fundraising event for us.With the help from our members volunteering this is what keeps our subs down, and our gear and Waka maintained.
Marquee Volunteers
A awesome effort from all that helped out on Friday to set up the marquee. It was done in record time.
A huge thanks to the Rangatahi from Nelson Training Centre and Ontrack Waimea College without whose help we would have been struggling to get the job done. Thanks so much. Mauri Ora!!
Cycle Marshalls
Thanks to the Cycle Marshall crew this morning! All decked out in our hi-vis finery, we spent the morning corralling parents and encouraging kids. Had the opportunity to work on our hollering skills, and also see some wonderfully determined kids, including a young one who did the whole route on a unicycle!
Carparking at Centennial Road, (Gold coin collection):
We were asked by Sports Nelson Tasman Trust if we could provide parking attendants for the car parking at Centennial Road. Greg Buck, Rongomai Flavell, Joyce Thevenaz, Eunice Creswell, John Young and non-member, Kaye Eden, all arrived about 7:30 and finished around 9:30 as the parking fell away.
They collected $272.40 plus 100 ? Chinese coin, a 5c 2006 Borwa African coin & a 1980 old style 10 c NZ coin (amazing what people carry in their purses!!).
Some people did not carry coins, some gave $5 & $10 notes, some just gave whatever coins they could.
Not a fortune but all $$$ in the bank for Maitahi OCC.
Its never too early or too late to start paddling waka ama
We always welcome new members to the Maitahi Outrigger Canoe Club.
We have social and racing waka ama crews catering for a wide variety of ages and abilities.
