Invitations went out last week to every club in New Zealand for next year’s Tuna e Hoe race at Lake Rotoiti on 11th-12th February. We have had immediate responses from a number of clubs in Auckland and Napier registering their interest in attending our event for the first time. The feedback from them is that with Sprint Nationals being cancelled and racing in short supply, they are keen on coming down to Nelson Lakes to race. The Lakes Race Committee had been a little concerned that we might be short on numbers for next year but we might actually end up with the opposite ‘problem’.
It would therefore be very helpful if club crews began thinking about their W6 racing intentions for February. We have already had requests from North Island clubs for waka so there might be high demand on our club canoes.
If you are thinking of entering, race information, race pack and entry form are available here
The opening date for registrations of interest in using a club canoe was 1st December and the opening date for payments and securing waka is 1st January. After 8th January we will start allocating spare club canoes to outside clubs. This isn’t a great deal of time to get organised, hence the reminder.
Please note that TEH 2022 will be a Vaccine Pass event in accordance with Government event guidelines.
