Just a quick note, with more to come, about TEHA 2024.
Our biggest fundraising event of the year at Lake Rotoiti was a huge success, with more than 200 people at the dinner and just under that amount out on water enjoying some glorious weather.
Huge thanks to the TEHA committee who made the event run like clockwork, or as close as is ever likely to clockwork. Many members and former members of MOCC gave their whole weekend or large parts of it to make sure registration, timing, food prep and serving, safety check etc etc etc went according to plan. Thanks to all those who stepped up and offered their services to Eva who had the thankless task of being volunteer organiser.
Big contingents from Christchurch and Motueka made up the majority of the paddlers with more local support from Te Tai o Aorere, Whakatu Marae and Onetahua. We also enjoyed the company of a crew from Kokiri marae in Wellington, whose organiser sent the following note when they got home :
“Please pass onto the club our sincere thanks . What a stunning breathtaking event . Thank you all for your kindness and hospitality . We already planning for next year .”
The foreshore was busy with registration and timing tents, Heart Foundation testing and our ever popular BBQ. Rata Foundation was there with a camera, filming a promo film about how their support of our club helps our community.
Always risky to pick out individual efforts but without doubt Jason Daughtrey and Real Meals providing the food for the dinner has been the best thing to happen to the event in many years.
Also thanks to our support boat drivers Jason, Jamie and Zane and the the Tasman Harbourmaster Pete Renshaw who also helped fish a few paddlers out of the lake.
The committee who helped put this together over many months was Kilmeny Stephens, Katie Thurston, Karen Driver, Eva Virtue, Tony Davies and Zoe Horvath.
