Sun shines for final Winter Series event

You really wouldn’t have picked it at 07.00 on Sunday morning but we had a great, sunny morning on the beach for the final Te Tauihu o Te Waka Winter Series event of 2024.

The forecast, and the reality early in the day, was for heavy rain and possible thunder storms. By the time we were underway with the first race the air was warming up, the sun was out and the ocean was pancake flat.

As ever there was great support from visiting clubs, a great atmosphere and some friendly racing.

We haven’t quite sorted out the final points tallies but as Callum rightly pointed out it’s the getting together and meeting one another that is the most important thing. Having said that, Motueka dominated the series and deservedly retained the beautiful trophy.

Well done and thanks to everyone who contributed in so many ways to making the series a success. See you all next year and let’s get out there and support our local races like Waka the Tasman (November) and Tuna e Hoe Ana (February).
