Just a reminder that the club has organised a fun morning on Sunday 2nd January starting at 09.00 at Tahunanui beach.
Sean Timoney has organised the club single and two doubles to be paddled down and a whole lot of other club members are bringing their own singles and doubles to the beach.
This will be a chance for you to get in a single or double for the first time, learn how to fall in and get back onboard, have some fun flying the ama, hear some stories and experiences from people who have been paddling singles for a while and maybe get signed off to use one of the club canoes. It will be the safest possible environment for learning how to use the canoes and getting your confidence levels up. The forecast is for sunshine and the water is nice and warm.
If there’s a small and clean bump on the bar we can also take a few people over who may not have surfed before to introduce them to that whole new world of fun.
By the end of the morning we hope you will be talking over coffee about your new found love for heading out in a small waka to complement your W6 paddling. There’s no better way to learn about your own stroke than being in a canoes where you are the only paddler !
One thing is certain. Everyone who turns up is going to get wet, so come prepared for a bit of swimming and splashing around. Also remember we have another morning planned next Saturday 8th at 09.00 in case you either can’t make this one or like it so much you want to do it again.
Its never too early or too late to start paddling waka ama
We always welcome new members to the Maitahi Outrigger Canoe Club.
We have social and racing waka ama crews catering for a wide variety of ages and abilities.
