MOCC & TTOA at Whakaraupo Chase

This weekend Hine Tahi & Nga Manu Whaitiri took on the mission & challenge of  Whakaraupo Chase, a 21km Lyttleton harbour race with 4 stops on beaches to complete brain or brawn challenges.

Hine Tahi was representing Maitahi & Nga Manu Whaitiri was representing Te Tai O Aorere. Both teams worked well together organise the trip & logistics to make it happen.
This was Hine Tahi’s first race as a team and they smoked this mission. Battling the wind and waves they completed the race and challenges with heart and style. They are a gutsy & beautiful group of wahine.

A very special mention of appreciation to our hero of the weekend Jacqueline!  This was her first race steering Hine Tahi after recently getting her steering ticket…..And ultimately taking on the huge responsibility & nailing towing of the waka to & from Lyttleton.

Nga Manu Whaitiri was blessed by having Hine Tahi’s company and the honour to awhi these ladies for their first trip away waka racing. So much fun had by all.

Looking forward to seeing the Hine Tahi ladies develop and grow from strength to strength. Nga Manu Whaitiri is here to support them to keep enjoying their journey.

Nga Manu Whaitiri also had a fantastic time in their race chasing down the powerful Hine Tahi. They had with a 16 minute handicap advantage after the first race leg. Nga Manu had to go all in & battle to narrow the time gap to 7 minutes.

We were the only top of the south teams and it woukd be great to have more next year.
