Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned paddler there’s always either something new to learn or questions to be asked about how we make our waka move in the water. On Sunday 19th February at 08.00 Jason Hulena will be running a paddling bio-mechanics workshop at the marina for all club members.
Jason is well known to many of you as the owner of Primal Fit gym in Richmond and also as the coach of a couple of Maitahi crews. He’s also a gold medal winner at sprint nationals and steered his crew at the World Championships in Tahiti.
But his real passion is bio-mechanics. The workshop will be a chance for him to explain his thoughts on how to move the canoe efficiently and with low injury risk and your chance to ask him questions about how you do that individually and as a crew. What is my top arm doing ? How much do my legs do ? What does hinging and rotating mean ? How do I hold the hoe so that I don’t get wrist injuries ?
The Paddle 101 Workshop should give you the basics for a great paddle stroke. It’s also free to club members. A Teamer invite will go out club wide just so we get some idea of numbers. Look forward to seeing you there.
Its never too early or too late to start paddling waka ama
