A freezing day in Picton greeted the hardy paddlers from around Te Tau Ihu for the third race of the series. There was snow on the hills around Picton and ice on the waka but those that went were rewarded with another enjoyable days with our waka whanau.
It was a small MOCC turn out as we only had 10 show up. Major kudos to Suzanne, a new paddler at Maitahi who didn’t know anyone but just got stuck in. She was in the winning boat in one race and 2nd place in another. A chilly introduction to racing but we promise it should get a wee bit warmer from here on in !
The final race is hosted by Maitahi in Nelson on Sunday 17th September. We will need lots of hands on deck as well as in the waka so please help out if you can.
Its never too early or too late to start paddling waka ama
