Kia ora koutou ngā kaihoe o Maitahi,
The majority of the kōmiti met today and discussed the current traffic light system.
After a lot of discussion, those present unanimously agreed that MOCC will continue to follow the Waka Ama NZ Protection Framework. Under the orange traffic light, and until further notice, we will be following the option to NOT check vaccine passports.
A person’s vaccination status is personal information and so falls under the protections laid out in the Privacy Act 2020. This means that a persons vaccination status can be offered to you, but you cannot demand that this is provided to you.
As a club, we are not permitted to store individuals’ vaccine status.
How you proceed as a crew is up to each crew. As you may know, some crews have already discussed and clarified how they intend on moving forward regarding vaccinated or not vaccinated crew members.
Should a MOCC member choose not to disclose their vaccination status, as per their right, vaccinated members have the option to withdraw from paddling in a situation where they feel at risk from not knowing the status of others.
This current framework does not include events. Further information on Waka Ama Events is yet to come.
