At the time of year when we remember those who have passed before us, there was a small ceremony at the shore of the Maitahi river following the karakia that began the Matariki celebrations at the Trafalgar Centre.
Leanne donated two hoe to the club, one a steering blade, which were laid in the waters of the river during a waiata sung by Kiri Wahanui. Rosalie Adamson then spoke a few words remembering her great friend Leanne’s sense of fun and adventure and her love for the ocean, the waka and the club.
Every time those paddles are taken out, Leanne’s spirit will be with us.
