Winter series in Golden Bay last weekend. What a cracker! Started off with 11 of us around a table at the Sprig and Fern in Pohara – working out race strategies etc.
17 Maitahi paddlers braved the conditions, unload and rig at 7.30am, first race at 9.15. With only 2 W6, we got creative and managed to enter a novice team alongside the OC1 and OC2. Novice crew glowing and smiling at their finish. Rodney and Mason putting in the hard yards in the OC2.
Hine Tahi womens crew making a good finish and giving it everything they had.
Then 2 x mixed crew. Damian’s crew was on fire and looked good to get first place, pulled up on a technicality. #!§*#! Bugga
Inter club mix it up always good times.
Kudos to Jacqui for towing waka over the hill and back. Also thanks to our steerers, Karen Clark, Damian and Mason. Awesome work. Mason’s first race as a steerer and he understood the term ‘Argie bargie!’
Onetahua, put on an amazing feast, always generous.
The comments I heard, were, it is great to be all paddling together again, doing what we love, catching up with folks from other clubs and paddling in different waters. Tata Beach has stunning scenery.
Bring on the next event, there is some fire in the belly to paddle hard.
Awesome re-rig back at the marina. Done and dusted in 30minutes! Many hands ……
Its never too early or too late to start paddling waka ama
